The sounds of shaking glass.

Shift was my first attempt at minimalism. The music and the accompanying video were create for a master course.

The music is composed of just five sounds, all glass or ceramic ware from my kitchen. The sounds were then organised in patterns with the accents of those pattern changing throughout the piece.

The video was made in a similar vein. It was shot out of the window of a moving train at night. I tried to capture moments when of light in the darkness and then used these peaks of light in time with the accents in the music.

What I still like about this piece is the simplicity. It’s five audio samples and five video samples, and not much else. And it sparked the piece which became the B side on my vinyl Dusk.
